Rainbow in a Jar

Rainbow in a Jar

Here’s the how-to:

Materials:
  • Paper
  • Colored Chalk
  • Salt

1 Step:

Pour salt on a piece of paper, enough to make a layer about 1/4 “ thick in your chosen container. This is tactilely so wonderful – let your kids play with it – or design with it.

2 Step:

Take your chosen chalk color and rub the chalk back and forth across the salt until you get the desired color saturation.

3 Step:

Carefully, pour layer of colored salt into container.

4 Step:

Use the opposite side or a new piece of the paper for a new color.

5 Step:

Pour layers at angles and around the jar to get interesting strata.  You can rotate the jar while pouring to achieve this.

6 Step:

Repeat process with new colors until jar is completely full.  Take care not to shake the jar as this will mix the layers up – brown salt, no fun.

Take a moment to relish in the happy feeling you get making something and appreciate the colors and layers and how they look.

KNOTTED SIDES T-SHIRT

 KNOTTED SIDES T-SHIRT

If your shirt is way too big, this is an easy way to turn it into a more fitted tee.

All you need is a pair of scissors.

First, try it on and measure how far in from each side you would like to bring the shirt. Cut off the hems from the sleeves, bottom and collar.

Turn the shirt inside out and cut a slit up each side of the shirt all the way up to the sleeves. Cut horizontal strips into the sides of the shirt, as deep as you need the shirt to be taken in on each side. The thinner you cut the strips, the more finished your shirt will look in the end. Make the strips near the underarms very small and close together to avoid huge holes in that area.

Working from top to bottom, double-knot each strip from the front of the shirt with its corresponding strip from the back of the shirt.

Enjoy!

How to Make a Slit Sided T Shirt

How to Make a Slit Sided T Shirt!

1 Step:

Put the shirt on and decide how far you want to cut into it. When it is done it should be tight against the sides of your stomach and shoulders without being so tight its uncomfortable. Usually about an inch is a good depth to start off with.,

2 Step:

Lay the t-shirt inside out on a flat surface. Make sure the surface is completely smooth and flat. Align the edges of the shirt by making sure each hem is laying on top of its counter hem on the opposite side of the shirt.

3 Step:

Using a pair of scissors cut the sides. They should be cut a bit like fringe. Make sure you cut both sides of the shirt and that you cut evenly. Each piece should be about a half inch wide and about three inches long. These sizes usually work for everyone, but if its too tight or too loose you may need to adjust. Cut the entire sides starting below the shoulder hem (Where the sleeve ends) and going to the bottom hem.

4 Step:

Tie each of the strips to the one below it. Start at the top and be careful not to miss any of them as you tie. If you want you can leave a few untied for a more edgy look, that usually works best in the middle of the sides or at the top or bottom. In other words, try not to just randomly leave some untied, pick your style and stick with it.

Water Marble Drinking Glass with Nail Polish

Water Marble Drinking Glass with Nail Polish

To make this craft you will need:

at least two nail polish colors
 one clear coat
 nail polish remover
 flat-bottomed glas
 a plastic container
 warm water
 paint or crafting tape,
a cotton ball and a tooth pick

Step 1:

Apply tape to the bottom two inches of each glass to make a clean edge when you add the color.

Step 2:

Pour a few inches of warm water into a shallow plastic container and start adding drops of nail polish. (You have to move quickly so it's best to have all the tops off the polish before you begin.) Once you add multiple colors, you should start to see them layering.

Step 3:

Using a toothpick, gently swirl the colors together to create a design of your choice.

Step 4:

Once you've achieved the look you want, hold the glass upright and push it into the water into the marbleized design.

Step 5:

Carefully pull the glass out of the water. It should look similar to this.

Step 6:

Allow the polish to dry by placing the glass upside down. Then, add the clear coat to the design. Allow the clear coat to dry and then gently remove the tape.

Step 7:

Use the nail polish remover and a cotton ball to clean any polish that may have gotten on the glass.

Enjoy your handmade marbled glassware!
